1964: The Birth of the "Pony Car"
The story begins in April 1964 at the New York World’s Fair. Ford unveiled a sporty, compact, and affordable car featuring a long hood and a short rear deck. It was named the Mustang, and it was an absolute sensation. Ford originally projected they would sell 100,000 units in the first year; they sold over 400,000.
This monumental success didn't just boost Ford's lineup, it created an entirely new class of automobile known as the "pony car." Competitors scrambled to catch up, but the Mustang had already established itself as the undisputed leader of the pack.
The Golden Age of Muscle (Late 60s & 70s)

The Fox Body Revolution (1979–1993)

To keep the spirit alive, Ford introduced the third-generation Mustang in 1979, built on the new "Fox" platform.

In 2005, Ford made a brilliant move by introducing the fifth-generation Mustang. It featured a "retro-futurist" design that heavily echoed the classic lines of the late 60s models. This design choice sparked a massive resurgence in pony car popularity.
